In this game, participants pair up and sit back-to-back.
One member of the pair receives an image or an object. The challenge is then to describe this item to their partner without using obvious words that could give too much away. For example, if the image depicts a chicken, the player cannot use words like "chicken", "bird", "hen", etc.
Depending on the complexity of the image, allocate about 10 to 15 minutes for this activity. Once the time is up, share the images and prepare to discover often hilarious interpretations!
Variations
- Sit in a circle and rotate participants mid-drawing. This means that individuals will have to finish the drawing started by someone else.
- Turn off the lights to add a challenge. Participants will have to draw in complete darkness.
- Try creating the portrait without looking at the paper and without lifting the pen. This variant requires great concentration and precise control of movement.
Beyond mere entertainment, this game provides a valuable lesson on communication and how easily our messages can be misinterpreted. By attempting to describe an image without using obvious words, participants become aware of the nuances of language and the challenges of clear communication. They learn to choose their words carefully and to use detailed descriptions to effectively convey their ideas. By sharing and comparing the different interpretations at the end of the game, participants realize the importance of clarifying and verifying understanding when working in teams.
