Catapult Building

Here's a team-building activity that you don't do every day! In this game, participants are divided into teams and must design and build a functional catapult capable of launching a projectile a certain distance.

Game Overview:

  • Formation of Teams: Participants are divided into teams of 4 to 6 people.
  • Distribution of Materials: Each team receives a set of materials such as wooden planks, rubber bands, nails, screws, buckets, and tape.
  • Construction Phase: Teams have a limited time (usually 60 to 90 minutes) to design and build their catapult using the provided materials.
  • Launching Phase: Once the time is up, teams use their catapult to launch a projectile (such as a small ball) as far as possible.

Competitive Elements and Variations:

  • Distance of Launch:
    • Maximum Range: The catapult that launches the projectile the farthest earns points.
    • Accuracy: Create targets at different distances and award points based on the accuracy of the launches. The further the target and the closer the hit, the more points the team earns.

  • Design and Creativity:
    • Aesthetics: Award points for the most creative or aesthetically pleasing catapult. Encourage teams to decorate their catapult with the available materials.
    • Innovation: Reward teams for the most innovative construction solutions or ingenious mechanisms integrated into their catapult.

  • Stability and Safety:
    • Strength: Test the strength of the catapult by adding additional weights. The team whose catapult remains the most stable under pressure gets extra points.
    • Safety: Evaluate the safety and reliability of the construction. Catapults demonstrating solid and secure construction can receive bonus points.

  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Teamwork: Award points based on the observation of collaboration and communication within each team during the construction phase.

This unique and fun project management exercise requires strategic planning, clear role distribution, and effective management of time and resources!
