Poemary is a creative game where participants showcase their talent for poetic writing while collaborating in a spirit of friendly competition. The objective of the game is to complete the last line of a poem using imagination and originality. This game can be played individually or in groups of 2 to 8 players and can serve as a team-building activity or an excellent icebreaker.
To organize a Poemary session, start by selecting a poem or a poem excerpt without the last line. Choose texts that are suitable for the audience and group level, whether classic literature or more contemporary poems. The "selector" is designated to choose the poem and read the lines, stopping before the last one.
The other players then write their own version of the last line on a piece of paper, trying to capture the spirit of the poem or surprise with their creativity. The selector notes down the actual last line of the poem.
Once all the submissions are in, the selector reads them aloud, including the real last line. The players then vote on the line they believe to be the correct one, without being able to vote for their own. The selector does not participate in the vote, as they know the true ending of the poem. Players earn points for each vote received for their fake line, and the selector earns 3 points if no one guesses the correct ending.
Poemary is an excellent game for stimulating imagination and artistic expression while strengthening team dynamics. By encouraging participants to think about poetic structure and express their ideas concisely, the game promotes communication and cooperation within the group. Moreover, by allowing everyone to express themselves through the art of language, Poemary offers an opportunity to better understand others' perspectives while sharing a moment of creativity and fun. Finally, the game's various versions, such as using thematic poems or different styles, allow for adaptation to different contexts, making each session unique and enriching.
